New vaccines available at MCHD

The Malheur County Health Department now has adult RSV and shingles vaccines available. Call us at 541-889-7279 to make an appointment. RSV vaccine is recommended for adults over age 60. Shingrix vaccine is recommended for adults over age 50 or over age 19 if immunocompromised. Shingrix is the vaccine against shingles (herpes zoster) and related complications.

If you haven’t received your flu and COVID-19 vaccines yet this season, it’s not too late! Respiratory viruses are still circulating in our area and making people sick. We also have high-dose flu doses available for people over age 65.

RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) is a common respiratory virus that usually causes mild, cold-like symptoms. Most people recover in a week or two, but RSV can be serious. Infants and older adults are more likely to develop severe RSV and need hospitalization. RSV vaccine is also recommended for infants, but it is unavailable at our clinic at this time. Please reach out to your pediatrician or pharmacist if you are pregnant or have a child under 1 year old to inquire about RSV vaccine availability.

Vaccines have dramatically improved the odds of avoiding and surviving some of the most difficult diseases. There are many vaccines available in the U.S. that protect against severe illness, disability, and death from a variety of infectious diseases. These include (but are not limited to) hepatitis A, hepatitis B, shinglesHPV-related cancers, influenza, whooping cough, pneumococcal disease, and tetanus.

The ones you need—and when—vary, depending on such factors as age, pregnancy, health conditions, and whether you are a health care worker, immigrant, or refugee. The CDC provides vaccination schedules for children and adolescents, as well as for adults.

Spotlight on Vital Records Program

About Us

All births and deaths that occur in Malheur County are registered at the Malheur County Health Department by our Vital Records Team.

Certified copies of these records are available for purchase up until 6 months from the date of the event.  Vital records may be obtained in person at the Malheur County Health Department, while you wait, by appointment only. This means that when you come in for your appointment, which lasts about 30 minutes, you will leave with the official certificate. Most people on our Vital Records team are bilingual and happy to serve people in Spanish, if preferred.

Vital records are considered to be very confidential and can only be released to those legally eligible to receive them. Birth records are confidential for 100 years from the date of birth and death records are confidential for 50 years from the date of death.

Fees

Birth or death records cost $25 for each certificate. This is less expensive than ordering by credit card online through the state system (see additional resources below).

In order of preference, we accept cash, debit/credit card, money order, or personal check made payable to Malheur County Health Department.

To schedule an appointment, call us at (541) 889-7279.

Birth Certificates

Original birth certificates contain very important information often used for establishing identification, school enrollment, youth sports, driver’s license, insurance, housing, passports, etc.

Birth records can be released to legally eligible family members (parents, grandparents, brothers/sisters), legal representative or government agencies.

Death records can be released to legally eligible family members (parents, grandparents, brothers/sisters), legal representatives or to persons or agencies with a personal or property right. If you are not a family member or have a personal or property right, you will need a notarized permission note from a legally eligible family member.

Most commonly, families work with the funeral home to receive death records.

Save the Date: Mammogram Bus March 4th

Saint Alphonsus Mammography Bus is coming to the Malheur County Health Department on Monday, March 4th from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Appointments required. Call 208-367-8787 to reserve your spot or find other appointments in the area.

A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast. For many women, mammograms are the best way to find breast cancer early, when it is easier to treat and before it is big enough to feel or cause symptoms. Having regular mammograms can lower the risk of dying from breast cancer.

Share the flyers in English and Spanish. Call us at 541-889-7279 with questions or to learn about other services the health department provides.
