October 13 Flu & COVID-19 Vaccine Event

Do you need an updated (2023-2024 season) COVID-19 booster or flu shot? Perhaps you’re ready for your first COVID-19 dose. Join us Friday, October 13th, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Four Rivers Cultural Center (676 SW 5th Ave, Ontario) for a free, walk-in, flu and COVID-19 vaccine event. Bring your vaccine card and insurance card if you have it. No one will be turned away, if eligible for vaccine.

Incentives

Everyone who receives a flu or COVID-19 vaccine will receive a $25 gift card per dose for Red Apple or Waremart. If you get both COVID-19 and flu vaccines, you will receive $50 in gift cards. Vaccine and gift cards available only as long as supplies last.

Recommendations

The CDC and local healthcare providers recommend everyone 6 months and older get an updated COVID-19 vaccine and an updated flu vaccine to protect against the potentially serious outcomes of illness this fall and winter.

Vaccination remains the best protection against COVID-19-related hospitalization and death. Vaccination also reduces your chance of suffering the effects of Long COVID, which can develop during or following acute infection and last for an extended duration.  If you have not received a COVID-19 vaccine in the past 2 months, get an updated COVID-19 vaccine to protect yourself this fall and winter.

This is the first fall and winter virus season where vaccines are available for the three viruses responsible for most hospitalizations – COVID-19, RSV, and flu. RSV vaccine is not currently available at the Malheur County Health Department. Please call 211 or visit 211info to find a healthcare provider or pharmacy close to you.

Spotlight on Peer Services

Peer Services Team: Miguel, Tyler, and Hannah

Peer Services at the Malheur County Health Department are part of Prime+, a free service available to anyone in Malheur County looking for help with their substance use.

Prime+ Peers are certified professionals, who have lived experience with substance use and the impact it has on a personal, familial, and community level.

We aim to meet people where they are at and connect people to care, resources and services before and after an overdose, infection, or other health issues related to substance use.

Our services are free and Certified Recovery Mentors are available 5 days per week (Monday through Friday, during business hours) to help people who use drugs (or have a history of use) get Naloxone, connect with community resources, sign up for health insurance, connect to medical care, treatment and counseling, and get Hepatitis C testing and treatment.

Walk-ins are welcome for syringe exchange during business hours at our clinic: 1108 SW 4th Street in Ontario.

You can also dispose of used sharps at four locations across Malheur County

  • Origins; Ontario, OR
  • Mallards Grocery; Ontario, OR
  • Valley Family Health; Vale, OR
  • Nyssa Underpass on Residential side; Nyssa, OR

We encourage participants, and patients to bring in their used sharps, in a safe container, so we can properly dispose of them here at the clinic. Check out our post on our bins here.

The Malheur County Health Department hosts two recovery support groups. SMART Recovery Meetings from 3-4 p.m. Mountain Time on Mondays and PeerZone from 3-4 p.m. on Wednesdays. Previously held at the Four Rivers Cultural Center, the meetings are now available in a private classroom at the Health Department at 1108 SW 4th Street in Ontario.
